The seventies saw a number of family bands hit the charts. The Jacksons, The Cowsills, Sly and the Family Stone, Sister Sledge, The Partridge Family… well, maybe not the Partridge Family – At the forefront of these brother/sister bands were the Jacksons and The Osmonds. The latter having a 1970 hit with One Bad Apple.

- The Osmonds were six brothers (six of eight brothers and a sister) who became teen idols in the early 70s.
- The boys began as a barbershop quartet featuring, Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay. They were joined by younger brothers Donny and Jimmy; changed their name to The Osmonds, and the rest is history.
Two older brothers, George and Tom were born deaf and didn’t originally perform with the family band but, in later years, made several television appearances in the Osmond Christmas specials.
- Donny and Jimmy, and sister Marie, went on to have successful solo careers.
- The Osmonds continue to perform in various line-ups or as soloists today. Collectively, the family has sold 102 million records worldwide and have a star on the Hollywood Wall of Fame.

- One Bad Apple was written by songwriter George Jackson and recorded by The Osmonds on October 26, 1970.
- Released as a single, the B-side was a cover of The Hollies’, He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother.
- Released in late 1970, One Bad Apple hit #1 on the US charts in February 1971, sitting comfortably there for five weeks. It ended the year being ranked as #4 song for 1971.
- The song is lifted from The Osmonds debut album, Osmonds.
- George Jackson wrote the song with The Jackson 5 in mind – Michael Jackson apparently once said his brothers almost recorded the song but recorded ABC instead.
